Tempered Glass – Strength and Safety
Tempered glass is a type of glass that undergoes a special treatment that significantly improves the mechanical properties of float glass. It is two to five times stronger than normal glass and therefore offers a superior option in terms of durability and safety.
High Durability with Thermal Toughening
The strength of tempered glass is achieved through a special process, thermal hardening. During this process, the glass is passed through an oven that reaches a temperature of around 600 °C and is then cooled suddenly and rapidly. This thermal treatment increases the internal stresses of the glass and ultimately increases its durability.
An Indispensable Part of Safety Glass
Tempered glass is an indispensable part of safety glazing. In the event of an accident or impact, tempered glass breaks into large pieces and does not form small sharp edges, thus minimizing the risk of injury. At the same time, the durability of the glass provides better protection against theft and external influences.
Tempered glass is an excellent option for safety and durability in windows, doors, walls and many other applications in both residential and commercial buildings.
